Get out that new batch of fabric tape, stock up on that tanning spray, and get that floor buffed pronto! Well, you still have some time, but not much. Get ready for 'Dancing With The Stars' fans as it makes its triumphant return next month! Season eight has 13 new 'Celebs' vying for 'Best of the Ballroom'. They were announced last night so here they are.
LIL' KIM: This Grammy Award winning 'Lady Marmalade' rapper, singer and actress asks the burning question, "Voulez vous dancer avec moi ce soir?" Translation? I thought not!
BELINDA CARLISLE: Successful solo artist and front woman for the popular 80's band 'The Go-Go's'. She may not think that 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth' if those judges scores are low! It could be a classic case of 'Head Over Heels'. Oh 'I Get Weak' just thinking about it!
DAVID ALAN GRIER: Comedian best known for being a regular on 'In Living Color' (snap and around the world!) and creating an endless array of 'wacky characters' (that Tom Bergeron could probably use for his other show America's Funniest Home Videos). But with friends like the Wayan Brothers and Jim Carey let's hope his moves are anything but funny on the dance floor! Hmmm I wonder if he picked up any pointers from 'ex-Fly Girl, J. Lo' before Fox cancelled it?
JEWEL: Country singer and three-time Grammy Nominee is set to go head-to-head with her hubby, 'Ty Murry'. Wonder if this will transpire to a full-out battle? Oh there is bound to be some serious competition between the two of them! And he used to ride some pretty mean bulls for a living too, but I don't think anything could prepare him for this. Can you say 'Paso Doble' people? Yikes!
SHAWN JOHNSON: The youngest competitor (hmmm thought that would have been 'Cody Linley' from last season but hey what do I know?!) 17-year-old, Olympian gold medalist in balance beam at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. You go for the gold (uh I mean mirror-ball) girl! You go!
GILLES MARINI: His television debut as 'Dante' in the 'Sex and the City' movie (he played Kim Cattrall, a.k.a. Samantha's boy toy neighbour) and has since made appearances on 'Ugly Betty', 'Dirty Sexy Money' and 'Criminal Minds'. Let's see if this Casanova can eliminate his competition long enough for Bruno Tonioli to say, '10'!
TY MURRAY: A real 'King of the Cowboys' who's bull riding skills made him a seven time All-Around World Champion and he also has two-bull riding titles to boot! He's retired now but has temporarily traded in his cowboy boots for some dancin' shoes this season! And that's NO BULL either! Yeeehawwww! Oh and he's coincidentally married to 'Jewel'.
STEVE-O: The real 'Jackass' (producer/creator/director) extraordinaire! Stephen Glover is going to prove that his talents stretch much further than having himself knocked unconscious on camera (and live to tell about it). Please folks don't try this at home! Is there a doctor in the house? Really is there?
NANCY O'DELL: Access Hollywood co-Anchor and actress (and now wanna-be dancing star) added to her list of credits. With 'Maria Menounos' doing 'Pantene' commercials and 'Billy Bush's' failed attempt at 'Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?' last year. It was only a matter of time before another one of the 'Access' clan jumped on the reality show bandwagon. Oh lucky us! NOT!
DENISE RICHARDS: 'The Bond Girl' ('Christmas Jones' from 'The World Is Not Enough' and apparently the dance floor isn't enough either!) the lovely 'ex-Mrs. Charlie Sheen' and 'Playboy Playmate' is set to donn the spray tan for this one with sexy Max as her partner! Remember her in 'Wild Things'? Oh Karina, be afraid, be very, very afraid!
LAWRENCE TAYLOR: This 'NFL Hall of Famer' (and holds a two-time Super Bowl title with the New York Giants) wants nothing more than to make a 'Touch-Down' and be the last one standing on the ballroom floor!
CHUCK WICKS: Country singer/songwriter (and cutie) responsible for the 2007 smash hit 'Stealing Cinderella' has set his eyes on the mirror-ball trophy! He'd probably write a song about it that would hit #1 on the Billboard charts! Oh and coincidentally his partner on and off the dance floor is none 0ther than 'two-time Dancing champion, Julianne Hough'. Should make for some interesting talk at the dinner table eh?! Please pass the salt and btw will stop stepping on my toes! Geez!
STEVE WOZNIAK: Release the 'Geek Squad' for this guy. 'The Woz' rocked the computer world on its ear having designed the first line of Apple products and influencing Macintosh. A business man, philanthropist (for the last three decades), and successful author, Wozniak proved he's got what it takes to get him to the top. But can he execute the perfect 'Quick Step'? We'll find out soon enough!
The competition will be fierce I say! Fierce! 'Judge Dread' Len Goodman, Carrie-Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli will be back, Tom Bergeron (and yeah then there's Samantha Harris with her 'man shoulders' - yes I was reminded of that unfortunately! Gulp!) will also be back. This year we've got a newly engaged professional dance couple competing against one another with Karina Smirnoff (wasn't she living with Mario Lopez up until just the other day?) and Maksim Chmerkovskiy (Yeah that Maks!) going head-to-head. The popular Macys Stars of Dance and the Ballroom Kids Competition also returns. But I'm sure they'll be plenty of other surprises in store along the way.
The slight twist this season has the bottom two couples facing elimination having a 'Dance-Off' to determine who is booted off in the first weeks of competition. It should be rather interesting to see what happens this season. I'm thinking that Denise Richards will make 'a la Brooke Burke' and take this thing with Maks. As for the first two to be eliminated. I think 'Steve-O' and 'Geek Steve' will be the first to hang up their dancin' shoes. After all this is reality tv isn't it? Ahhhh ain't life grand!
The DWTS 2-hour Season Premiere Monday March 9 at 8 p.m. on ABC and CTV.
